GLP-1 Weight Loss Program
Consultations offered at our two convenient locations in Florham Park, NJ and Somerville, NJ

Our GLP-1 weight loss program is designed to help patients lose weight and manage symptoms of obesity under the supervision of a medical professional. It can be difficult for many patients to lose weight using traditional methods such as dieting or exercise. This program utilizes GLP-1 agonists, medications that help patients lose weight by improving their metabolism, enhancing feelings of fullness, and increasing insulin sensitivity.
Compounded GLP-1 medications are not FDA-approved. They may only be offered under specific federal guidelines and are not reviewed for safety, efficacy, or manufacturing quality by the FDA.

About GLP-1 Medications
While originally developed to lower blood sugar and improve metabolic health, GLP-1 medications have emerges as a leading weight loss option; over 837,000 weight loss medications were prescribed in 2024 alone. (1) At The Peer Group, we offer both semaglutide and tirzepatide.
About Semaglutide
Semaglutide is an injectable weight-loss medication. This treatment is a GLP-1 receptor agonist designed to help target the metabolic pathway that controls insulin and blood sugar levels. This medication additionally slows gastric emptying and alleviates food cravings, allowing patients to feel fuller for longer periods. (2)
About Tirzepatide
Tirzepatide is a dual GLP-1 receptor agonist and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) receptor agonist. (3)

Our GLP-1 weight loss program offers several benefits for those interested in managing their weight. Several of these advantages include:
- Enhanced Weight Loss: Studies suggest that patients can lose a significant percentage of their total body weight over time while taking these medications.
- Appetite Suppression: GLP-1 medications help enhance feelings of satiety and fullness after eating smaller portions of food. This helps reduce overall cravings and helps patients consume fewer calories without feeling hungry.
- Improved Metabolic Health: GLP-1 receptor agonists enhance insulin sensitivity and contribute to better glucose control, lowering the risk of type 2 diabetes.
- Supportive Weight Management: This program equips patients with effective strategies and tools to help maintain their weight with the support of our expert doctors and specialists.
- Decreased Cardiovascular Risk: Weight loss can significantly lower one’s chances of developing or worsening conditions such as hypertension, high blood pressure, or heart disease.
Ideal Candidates
The ideal candidates for our GLP-1 weight loss program include anyone interested in improving their weight and metabolism for a healthier lifestyle. All interested candidates should be prepared to make healthy lifestyle changes in preparation for the start of their weight loss program, as GLP-1s are most effective when paired with regular exercise and a balanced diet.
Our weight loss program is recommended for most patients interested in weight loss; however, those diagnosed with type 1 diabetes may not be recommended to undergo treatment at our facility. (2) Our wellness specialists at The Peer Group will determine each individual’s candidacy for our wellness program at their consultation.
Personal Consultation
Before starting their weight loss program, patients will meet one-on-one with our wellness specialist to learn more about what our treatments consist of. The specialist will discuss the patient’s medical history, concerns, and treatment goals before evaluating the patient’s physique. The specialist will use the gathered information to develop a comprehensive plan with the patient.
If you are ready to schedule your personal consultation and receive your tailored treatment plan, please submit our online contact form. If you have any questions or wish to schedule your consultation over the phone, please call (973) 822-3000 to reach either our Florham Park or Somerville offices.
Preparation
To prepare for their weight loss program, patients will be given a set of pre-treatment instructions during their consultation. Patients are asked to maintain a balanced and nutritious diet, as well as maintain their hydration levels each day. Patients are also encouraged to adopt other healthy habits, such as regular exercise, into their daily routine. Any further preparation will be discussed by the wellness specialist.
Procedure
Both semaglutide and tirzepatide are administered as once-weekly injections beneath the skin. This treatment may be self-administered in the comfort of the patient’s own home or at either our Somerville or Florham Park office. Patients interested in self-administering will need to attend their first injection in-office, so that our wellness specialist may instruct them on safe injection practices. The medication may be delivered into the lower abdomen, thighs, or arms, with the injection site rotating each week to avoid overuse.
Throughout the treatment process, it is important to engage in regular exercise, as well as maintain a nutritious diet. Our team at The Peer Group will continue to monitor and evaluate each patient’s progress—all while providing ongoing support and monitoring throughout their weight loss journey.
Recovery
After each injection, patients are welcome to return to their daily routines. Both semaglutide and tirzepatide are considered to be well-tolerated medications; however, some patients may experience a few side effects initially. Patients may experience nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, or vomiting until their body becomes more accustomed to their medications. Staying hydrated is important for mitigating these side effects.
Results
Both semaglutide and tirzepatide offer gradual results. Patients typically experience decreased hunger after several weeks of regular treatments, with reductions in total body weight being seen after several months. Both semaglutide and tirzepatide are designed to be used long-term, meaning patients may regain weight if the treatment is stopped.
