Restore Sagging Breasts to a Perkier Position for Somerville, Florham Park, and All of New Jersey

Skin and other supportive tissues keep breasts from “giving in” to gravity in a person’s younger days. Unfortunately, the force’s constant pull toward the ground eventually starts to win out, with age, weight fluctuations, hormones, and even the effects of pregnancy working together to cause sagging. With a breast lift, New Jersey’s The Peer Group for Plastic Surgery team can use any of several techniques to remove excess skin and reposition the sagging breasts, resulting in a perkier look. Patients from Florham Park, Somerville, Livingston, Morristown, and beyond receive personalized care with a highly customizable procedure that allows them to fulfill their cosmetic goals.

Before and After Photos

What Is A Breast Lift?

Breast lift—or mastopexy—is a plastic surgery procedure that many patients choose in order to improve the perkiness of their breasts, as well as their symmetry. A breast lift for Florham Park, Somerville, and other New Jersey-area patients can address anything from mild to moderate to significant sagging, with the surgery specifics depending on the patient’s unique anatomy, degree of sagging (known medically as “ptosis”), and desired outcome.

It is important to realize that removing stretched-out skin and tightening the remaining tissue is ideal for raising the breasts higher on the chest, but it does not add volume. To increase the size of the breasts, volume-adding breast augmentation is the procedure of choice. Enhancement, whether involving implants or fat transfer, can be combined with a breast lift to both elevate the breasts and boost their size.

Keep in mind that heavier breasts are more likely to pull toward the ground, especially if the skin supporting them is older and less elastic. Your plastic surgeon will help you to determine which surgery will provide the look you want and recommend the appropriate techniques.

Breast Lift Options

Standalone Breast Lift

A breast lift is often performed as a single procedure. This is typically a good option for patients with smaller breasts or patients who are looking for more subtle results. It can involve removing stretched-out skin, securing the remaining skin in place, and repositioning the nipples as necessary so that they do not point down toward the feet.

Combination Breast Lift

While some patients want a breast lift combined with an enhancement, a mastopexy may also be paired with a breast reduction for patients who have larger breasts or patients who are looking for more dramatic results. Combining a breast lift and a reduction can greatly improve the shape and size of the breast, as well as the position of the nipple and areola.

Best Approach

As a patient seeking a physical change, you do not need to come in knowing which procedure would work best for you. After you explain the look you want at an initial consultation, your plastic surgeon can go over the options with you, explaining in detail the results possible with each surgery or treatment.

At The Peer Group for Plastic Surgery, we mostly use our Vectra 3D imaging technology for augmentation patients, but it can also be used to “forecast” the results of a breast lift. This imaging device scans the patient to build a highly detailed virtual “you.” Your plastic surgeon can alter this three-dimensional figure to show what a breast lift may look like on your chest with your breasts. These virtual results are visible from every angle, but should not be taken as a guaranteed outcome. While accurate, the images are more of a preview of the type of look a breast lift can provide.

Another way to get a better understanding of the effects of a breast lift is to look through our large collection of before-and-after photos. Seeing how a breast lift impacted patients whose breasts, build, and frame look similar to you can help you to envision your own results.

There are several variations of breast lift surgery at New Jersey’s The Peer Group, including a lift alone, which solely addresses laxity and sagging; a lift with implants, which also adds volume and fullness; and a lift with reduction; which also takes away volume for aesthetic and physical benefits.

Every breast lift procedure will vary depending on the patient’s treatment goals and the details outlined as a result of the initial consultation.

The surgery itself will begin with a specialist delivering anesthesia. We have a private AAAASF-certified operating room on site and work with a group of board-certified anesthesiologists.

Once you are safe and comfortable, incisions are made on the breasts, typically around the areolae to reduce visible scarring. Additional incisions may be required beneath the areolae down the center of the breast and along the fold where the breast meets the chest wall. Excess skin and fat are removed, and the remaining skin is tightened. If necessary, the nipples are resized and repositioned for natural-looking results.

After these steps are complete, the incisions are closed and the procedure is over.

Most breast lift patients experience a few weeks of post-surgical swelling, bruising, and discomfort. Taking time off from work and any social obligations is a good idea, since “laying low” gives you a change to properly rest as your body heals. Exercise—and even exertion, such as lifting heavy objects—can cause complications or less-than-ideal results, so we advise you to take it easy for at least six weeks.

Post Procedure & Results

Repositioning the breasts results in a very noticeable change as soon as the procedure is done. They will not appear “final” due to initial swelling, but their long-term appearance will become increasingly apparent as the weeks go by.

Patients should enjoy their beautiful new results for years, but should also remember that “time marches on.” We encourage patients to maintain healthy lifestyle habits in order to help their results last as long as possible. Weight fluctuations—including those related to pregnancy—can undo the effects of a breast lift by causing the breasts to grow larger and stretch the skin anew. Aging alone will also cause the skin to lose its elasticity. Talk to us about how to take care of your skin and breasts as best as possible in order to preserve the effects of the lift far into the future.

Eventual sagging or other changes to the breasts—whether a gain or loss in volume—can happen, as can a simple change in taste and aesthetic preferences. No matter your reason for wanting a new look, we will work with you to help you get the contours you are seeking.

Breast lift costs are unique to each patient since every procedure is different. The best time to discuss costs is during the consultation while the plan is being developed. Once a path forward is set, we can explain the associated costs. You can also explore more about this subject, including payment options, on our financing page.

Available Options

The Peer Group for Plastic Surgery wants every patient to achieve a beautiful and personalized look, which is why we offer more than breast lifts, enhancements, and reductions. Any breast surgery can potentially be part of a Mommy Makeover, which involves creating contours and curves that reflect a “pre-baby” body as opposed to one that bears the stretches, marks, and fat pockets associated with pregnancy, birth, and nursing.

Breast cancer patients sometimes undergo surgery to remove part or all of their breast tissue as part of their care. We can perform breast reconstruction to restore a natural and proportional silhouette if desired.

The Peer Group can also perform breast implant removal for patients who no longer want their current implants—for whatever reason.

For men who deal with an excess of breast tissue, we provide male breast reduction to create more traditionally masculine chest contours.

The wide range of breast-focused surgeries we offer is just part of our mission to provide solutions to anyone who wants to take control of their appearance. If you have an aesthetic goal of your own, let us know!
