Ultrasound Skin Tightening in New Jersey

Collagen, elastin, and other elements keep youthful skin firm and tight. They also diminish as a person ages, leading to laxity that results in the development of everything from facial lines to sagging contours. With Ultherapy®, New Jersey’s The Peer Group can restore desirable collagen levels, making aging skin firm once again.

What Is Ultherapy®?

While there are many nonsurgical treatments available for reducing unwanted fat, these options typically do not address the common and related problem of skin laxity. Aging skin may grow loose on its own as it separates from underlying tissues and loses the youthful fat and collagen that helped it to maintain its shape, but laxity can also be a problem after fat-reduction treatments.

Fat fills the area below the skin, which can stretch to accommodate the bulk. Removing the fat, then, removes the volume pushing the skin outward. Youthful skin can retract, but older skin that has lost its elasticity may remain loose.

Ultherapy® is the solution to sagging caused by aging, as well as mild sagging related to fat reduction on the face. The FDA-cleared treatment uses ultrasound energy to activate collagen production in dedicated cells, as well as processes that produce more elastin and moisture-loving hyaluronic acid. As levels of these beneficial molecules rise, the skin “fills out” again, regaining healthy hydration, structure, and a smoother texture. This can firm up the brow, face, and neck, as well as smooth lines on the décolletage.

Ultherapy® Treatment Details

The Ultherapy® device does not involve needles or incisions. Instead, our physicians glide a handpiece over the surface of the skin. Ultrasound energy passes through the outermost layers and generates heat in the tissues below. Patients will feel warmth as this happens, with focused ultrasound imaging built into the Ultherapy® device keeping the directed energy at the ideal temperature and depth to safely trigger naturally occurring rejuvenation.

The treatment can be completed in the span of a typical lunch break, and there are no requirements for special care after a session.

Ultherapy® Recovery and Results

The treated area may appear red for a few hours, with the coloring fading quickly on its own. Other mild and temporary side effects to watch for include swelling, tingling, and tenderness.

The cellular processes that start after an Ultherapy® treatment take time to build collagen to the levels necessary for a noticeable change. Patients can expect to see their desired tightening effect develop over two to three months—and continue to improve for up to six months after that. In all, the tightening effect can last for a year or longer. One Ultherapy® treatment is generally all that is needed, but some patients may benefit from multiple sessions.

Remember that even the newly made collagen will break down over time. Talk to The Peer Group team about maintaining the skin-tightening results.

Other Options for Skin Tightening

Ultherapy® is ideal for anyone who wants to address mild to moderate laxity without surgery, but patients seeking a more dramatic change may consider a surgical facelift or neck lift to address sagging tissue.

Microneedling is another collagen-induction treatment patients can choose to address laxity, using needles instead of ultrasound to trigger collagen production in the skin.
