Restore a Youthful Look with the First FDA-Approved HA Fillers for Dynamic Wrinkles in New Jersey

There are many fillers that use a hyaluronic acid-based gel to add volume to the face. These treatments are quite effective at making lines appear less severe and addressing hollows that develop over time, but they are not typically ideal for high-motion areas where muscles frequently contract. That has changed, however, with the development of RHA® by Revance®. New Jersey’s The Peer Group offers this collection of fillers—the first hyaluronic acid filler to get FDA approval for treating dynamic folds and wrinkles—to patients who want the benefits of a robust nonsurgical treatment that provides natural-looking results.

Revance® worked with RHA® maker Teoxane, a Swiss laboratory that specializes in making hyaluronic acid-based fillers, to bring the collection to the United States. The agreement allows Revance®, an innovative biotech company in Silicon Valley, to offer three separate, uniquely made fillers.

What Is RHA® by Revance®?

The Revance® RHA® collection is a group of fillers that all contain what is known as “resilient hyaluronic acid.”

Human skin naturally makes hyaluronic acid in an ongoing cycle, with the sugar molecules known for binding with water and hydrating the skin breaking down and being replaced over and over. As time passes, however, the cycle begins to slow. When it reaches the point where hyaluronic acid breaks down faster than it is replaced, a deficiency develops.

The same thing happens with other molecules—including collagen and elastin—as people age. Skin deficient in hyaluronic acid, collagen, and elastin becomes increasingly dry and lax. Wrinkles and creases develop along with hollows and sagging.

Adding hyaluronic acid-based volume to areas that have lost collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin can “reverse” these changes by restoring hydration, filling in depressions, improving structure, and more.

Revance® uses a deliberately gentle manufacturing process to make its RHA® fillers, which results in molecules that mimic the hyaluronic acid made naturally in the skin. The gel is better suited to withstand the forces associated with high-motion areas. This makes the filler itself less noticeable and allows it to last longer in places where frequent muscle activity would cause other fillers to be rapidly metabolized.

What Sets the Various Revance® RHA® Fillers Apart?

The Revance® manufacturing process is used to create different “weights” of fillers. Variations in how the hyaluronic acid molecules are crosslinked determines how the filler should be used.

RHA® 2

A “lighter” filler from Revance®, this option reduces moderate dynamic wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth. It can augment the lips for a fuller look.

RHA® 3

A “middleweight” filler, this option from Revance® is ideal for addressing nasolabial folds and similar lines.

RHA® 4

The “heaviest” filler available from Revance®, RHA® 4 corrects deeper and more severe folds caused by volume loss.

RHA® Treatment Details

Only our highly trained and qualified physicians perform injections at The Peer Group, and they start each treatment plan with a consultation to determine the ideal approach for meeting a patient’s unique needs.

An RHA® by Revance® session involves a small number of injections made into the appropriate areas on the face. Patients typically tolerate these injections well. Revance® also includes lidocaine, an anesthetic, in its formula, so the gel itself minimizes sensation for a more comfortable experience.

Many sessions take around half an hour or less, but the specific time will depend on the patient.

RHA® Recovery and Results

Any injection can be expected to cause some common side effects, including minor tenderness or sensitivity in the area, as well as mild swelling or bruising. Results are visible as soon as the gel is injected, and there are no requirements for recovery or down time after a treatment. Patients are free to return to their workday, take it easy with light errands, or wait at home for any minor side effects to resolve as they see fit.

The intended result from a Revance® RHA® treatment will be visible within days of the appointment, after any injection-related swelling resolves. The volumizing effects of the collection have been shown to last for up to 15 months. After your body has metabolized the filler, you can return for a fresh round.

What Other Injectables Can Address Signs of Aging?

The Revance® collection is an ideal filler for treating dynamic wrinkles on the lower parts of the face, but other options work best on different signs of aging. Dynamic wrinkles on the forehead and next to the eyes respond well to muscle-relaxing neuromodulators like BOTOX®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, and Jeuveau.

To smooth static wrinkles, which appear due to volume loss not related to muscle activity, the Juvéderm® and Restylane® filler collections are appropriate.

Many patients find that they especially enjoy the results of combination treatments, which use various injectables to create a more youthful face that appears balanced and natural.
