Reduce the Look of Pores, Fine Lines, Redness, and Spots in New Jersey

Chronological aging, sun damage, and other factors can cause your skin to look weathered, splotchy, and dull. With IPL Photofacial, New Jersey’s The Peer Group can address some of the most visible cosmetic problems caused by time and ultraviolet radiation.

Light is used in many nonsurgical treatments because of its ability to heat the skin and trigger a range of healing benefits. While several devices deploy focused laser energy of a single wavelength, IPL Photofacial involves multiple wavelengths. This means just one device—the LimeLight—can improve the look and feel of skin that has multiple concerns.

What Is IPL Photofacial?

Aging causes natural collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid production in the skin to slow, resulting in a gradual loss of these important molecules. Sun exposure speeds up this loss even more, in addition to triggering melanin-producing cells in the skin to make more pigment as a defense against damage. Over time, the combined effects of these elements cause spots to appear and the skin to thin and dry out. Fine lines develop, pores appear larger, and veins below the surface can be seen as thin red vessels.

An IPL Photofacial can address all of these problems by sending intense pulsed light into the treatment zones, where darker-pigmented structures absorb the energy and rapidly heat up. This heat causes spots to ultimately flake away and unneeded spider veins to collapse. It can also reduce the redness of rosacea. Furthermore, the energy tightens the skin and encourages collagen production, which leads to a smoother and clearer surface.

IPL Photofacial Details

All IPL Photofacial treatments are performed by one of The Peer Group’s experienced physicians, who begin the process with a consultation to discuss cosmetic goals, examine the state of the patient’s skin, and answer questions about IPL Photofacial cost, recovery, and other details.

Patients tend to describe the feeling of intense pulsed light entering their skin as similar to something like a rubber band snapping against the surface, but the sensation is well-tolerated. We also apply a cooling gel prior to the treatment in order to improve comfort.

A single session can be expected to last less than an hour.

IPL Photofacial Recovery and Results

For the week after an IPL Photofacial treatment, patients can expect some redness, irritation, and minor swelling. Feel free to conceal these side effects with makeup before they resolve, especially since there’s no need to stay home to recover for more than about a day.

Expected results develop over weeks and months, during which pigmented lesions flake away, skin develops a smoother texture, and visible vessels are reabsorbed by the body. While some improvements are noticeable after a single treatment, three or four sessions may be necessary to achieve ideal results.

What Else Can Light Treatments Do for New Jersey-Area Patients?

While intense pulsed light is a versatile treatment with a range of applications, there are situations where a laser’s focused light is more appropriate. The Peer Group uses single-wavelength devices for laser scar reduction, laser hair reduction, and laser vein treatments. Discover which treatment can target your specific concerns by scheduling a consultation with our team.
