Restore Youthful Facial Contours in New Jersey

Loose skin that causes sagging on the lower half of the face is totally natural and among the most common results of the passage of time. Unfortunately, this effect also quickly gives away your age—or worse, makes you appear older than you actually are! A facelift at New Jersey’s The Peer Group can remove and tighten loose skin to refresh your appearance, helping you to look years younger. Our experienced plastic surgeons routinely work with patients from Livingston, Morristown, and beyond to provide flattering contours that give the face a more youthful appearance.

What Is a Facelift?

The facelift is one of the most well-known plastic surgery procedures available thanks to the noticeable and effective results it can provide for patients. The surgery focuses on elevating facial tissues that have migrated downward over time while simultaneously removing excess, stretched-out skin. This creates more youthful contours so that a patient’s profile looks smooth and well-defined, free of jowls and pockets of fat that create that aged appearance.

Because of the facelift’s popularity and prominence, many people mistakenly think that it handles all signs of aging anywhere on the face. While the procedure is ideal for re-shaping facial contours, it does not smooth out fine lines or create a more even complexion or tone. For women and men who want to address a wide range of cosmetic issues, the facelift can be combined with other non-surgical treatments to provide an overall rejuvenated look.

What Are My Options for a Facelift?

Full Facelift

A full facelift addresses multiple signs of aging on the face, including deep facial creases, jowls, loose skin, and stubborn pockets of fat in the chin and neck area. The surgery improves the appearance of the mid-face (the cheeks and under the eyes) and lower-face (chin, jawline, and neck). A total rejuvenation may also include a brow lift and eyelid lift at the same time.

Mini Facelift

Some patients only need or want adjustments made to the lowermost part of the face. This procedure will tighten lax skin to address jowls, better define the jawline, and sculpt the chin and neck area.

For patients whose primary problem is fat and sagging skin on their neck, a focused neck lift with or without neck liposuction is also an option. While this procedure may be performed on its own, it is most often combined with other techniques to rejuvenate the entire face.

How Can I Choose Which Facelift Strategy Is Best for Me?

Every person’s face ages in a unique way, and every patient who comes to The Peer Group for help has a specific aesthetic goal in mind. By meeting with you during a private consultation, we can hear your specific desires when it comes to facial contours, as well as assess your face to determine what is possible.

For certain patients, we can help to envision how a newly contoured chin could look via Vectra 3D imaging. By scanning your face, we can then create a three-dimensional model that can reveal the results of virtual adjustments to your profile. This simulation can give you a better idea of what a chin augmentation can add to a face and neck lift procedure. We also maintain a large selection of before-and-after photos that show the results of numerous facelift surgeries.

Facelift surgery at New Jersey’s The Peer Group involves incisions made in the hairline and around the ear. The camouflages the resulting scar in natural creases and allows us to tighten lax skin, reduce facial creases, and improve contours from the cheeks to the jawline and neck.

What Does a Facelift Involve?

Since facial surgery details are highly dependent on each patient’s situation, the procedure will be customized and depend on a range of personal factors. All of our facelift patients have their procedure done in our private AAAASF-certified operating room at our facility. A carefully chosen specialist administers the necessary anesthesia, and our plastic surgeons are all board certified and experienced in advanced techniques for facial contouring.

Full and mini-face lifts involve incisions made along the hairline and around the ears. We may also make an additional incision below the chin. Sagging skin will be pulled up, and any excess tissue will be removed. Excess fat is removed as necessary, and tissues may be repositioned to create more youthful contours. If there are areas of volume deficiency, your own fat may be collected from the abdomen and flank and gently injected in small amounts to restore those depleted regions of the face via fat transfer.

The remaining skin will be fixed in place so the face is smoother and tighter, and the incisions will be carefully closed to hide them along the natural contours of the face.

What is Facelift Recovery Like?

The more involved the facelift surgery, the more care and time will be needed during recovery to allow post-procedural bruises and swelling to resolve. The new contours will not be visible right away due to these side effects, but the improved definition, reduced creases, and other benefits will become increasingly apparent as time goes by. This process can take weeks.

We take great pride in our face and neck lift results. To this end, we enlist the help of our skin care specialists throughout your facelift journey to ensure that every detail is optimized for an excellent outcome. From preoperative skin care regimens to postoperative lymphatic massage, we are able to offer our patients an experience that is tailored to meet the highest expectations.

We recommend that our facelift patients avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise—anything more intense than a gentle walk—for at least a month following their surgery. Giving your face proper time to heal can make a significant difference in the quality of your results.

What Results Can I Expect from a Facelift?

Once healed, your face will appear younger—with some patients finding the surgery “sets back the clock” by about 10 years. Keep in mind that the clock will continue to tick from this point on, so the effects of time and gravity will gradually work on the new contours as well. However, you will ALWAYS look better than if you never had the procedure to begin with.

In order to maintain your beautiful facelift results for as long as possible, plan to eat well, exercise once it’s safe to do so, and wear plenty of sunscreen every time you go outdoors. Ultraviolet radiation breaks down collagen and other helpful molecules in the skin, which leads to a more aged appearance. Gaining new weight can also be a problem, since the growing fat cells will stretch out the skin and create new pockets of bulk. Even if you lose the weight, the skin can remain lax and sag.

How Much Does a Facelift Cost?

We will discuss pricing with you during your initial consultation, which is when we will work out the details of your unique facelift surgery. The cost for a mini facelift is different from a more comprehensive facelift procedure that involves the forehead and eyelids as well.

To anyone curious about more general financial information, we offer an overview of our financing options.

What Other Facial Surgery and Nonsurgical Rejuvenation Options Are Available?

Facial surgery procedures can be combined in many ways to give patients a rejuvenated look. We noted above how a facelift may be combined with eyelid or forehead surgery as desired. Some patients want to further adjust their silhouette with nose surgery (rhinoplasty) or ear surgery (otoplasty). These procedures are often performed on their own, as they have more to do with balancing facial proportions than addressing signs of aging.

Patients who want to treat fine lines, spots, and other skin changes not corrected by surgery can choose from a range of non-surgical treatments and skin care options.
