Facelift Procedure
There are several variations of cosmetic facelifts. Some of the techniques our plastic surgeons use on our facelift patients include:
- Skin-only facelifts
- Intermediate depth facelifts
- Deeper plaane facelifts
The type of cosmetic surgery facelift that is best for your aesthetic goals will be discussed with you in detail at your initial consultation. The incisions for facelifts are made just in front of the ear and wrap around the back of the ear, hidden within the hairline and concealing facelift scars. A facelift typically takes about three to five hours to complete, and is performed under intravenous sedation and does not require general anesthesia. The anatomy of the face is defined, muscles and connective tissues may be tightened, and the skin is redraped. Any excess skin is removed.
Facelift Recovery
The day after facelift plastic surgery the dressings are removed, and the sutures will be taken out over a period of days as you heal. The amount of swelling that you may have is variable, but facelift recovery is usually complete within a week or two and you can resume most normal activities. The few obvious signs of your facelift procedure will generally clear up after three weeks.
The best facelift results are seen in patients who have good skin elasticity and who do not smoke.
