Eyes that Shine – with Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery
Seeing the Possibilities in Eyelid Cosmetic Surgery
Droopy, tired-looking eyes can make people look sleepy, angry, or even unhealthy. The plastic surgeons at The Peer Group in northern New Jersey, serving Short Hills, Livingston and the surrounding areas, often perform eyelid surgeries that keep our cosmetic surgery patients looking healthy, happy, and enthusiastic. According to the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the traditional eyelid procedure, or blepharoplasty, is the second most common aesthetic procedure performed today on men and women.
Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Eyelid surgery opens up the eyes by removing pockets of fat from beneath the lower eyelid and beneath the eyebrow. Depending on your needs, you may benefit from upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or a combination of both.
• Upper eyelid surgery trims away excess skin that gives you a tired “droopy eyelid” appearance and/or affecting your vision. Our plastic surgeon will then lift the remaining skin and tighten it to provide a smoother appearance. Scarring from the eyelid treatment should be virtually invisible as the incisions are made in the natural crease of the upper eyelid.
• Lower eyelid plastic surgery removes bags and fat deposits underneath the eyes. Incisions are made under the lower eyelashes, and in many cases inside the eyelid itself. The excess fat, muscle and skin are removed, achieving a firmer, more youthful-looking aesthetic to the eyes.
The length of the plastic surgery will depend on which eyelid procedure you have selected to meet your goals; however, upper and lower eyelid surgery typically take from one to three hours to complete, and can be performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation.
