Body implants and body contouring comprise a variety of plastic surgery procedures that can create a more defined and personally pleasing shape to almost any part of your body. How big a difference can these procedures make for you? Your plastic surgeon can show you photographs of his or her patients taken before and after plastic surgery that demonstrate the change. If you live in the northern New Jersey area, we invite you to schedule a consultation at The Peer Group’s plastic surgery center in Florham Park to learn more, but here are some basics you should know:
Body implants are usually made of silicone-derived materials with the feel of firm muscle, and they’re available for many attention-getting parts of the body. Breast implants, the best known and most widely used implants, are made of softer silicone gel or are filled with saline (salt water).
Body contouring is a general term referring to cosmetic plastic surgery procedures that shape and improve the tone of the skin and underlying tissue. Examples of body contouring plastic surgery procedures include breast lifts, abdominoplasty, or tummy tucks, and liposuction. Body contouring is also often performed to remove excess skin and tissue on women and men after substantial weight loss,.
Many body implant procedures and other body contouring aesthetic plastic surgery procedures are performed for cosmetic reasons, to create a more pleasing appearance and better proportions, however, these procedures are also performed to correct congenital or injury related problems, which can result in an abnormal physical appearance. Whatever the reason and whatever the procedure, we recommend working with a board certified plastic surgeon with experience performing these operations. That will put you in the best shape for achieving the outcome you want.

If anything can have a greater impact on giving you a youthful or contoured look than a plastic surgery procedure, it would be combining two or more complementary cosmetic surgery procedures. For example, patients who elect to have eyelid surgery because they want to eliminate the bags under their eyes frequently opt to have a facelift at the same time, for more dramatic results. A breast lift if often combined with breast augmentation, while liposuction may be performed on different areas of the body concurrently – with a limit to the absolute volume of fat removed for safety.
Our board certified plastic surgeons at The Peer Group in northern New Jersey often perform cosmetic surgery procedures in combination. But some patients are under the impression that certain cosmetic plastic surgery procedures cannot be safely combined – For example, that performing liposuction and tummy tuck together can lead to complications. But this is a historical inaccuracy. For many years it has been shown that Liposuction of the abdomen can be safely combined with abdominoplasty, provided that limited, central undermining of the abdominal flap is done. If you’re considering a facelift, tummy tuck, rhinoplasty (what’s commonly called a “nose job”) or other common plastic surgery, you should work with a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon at a reputable facility. As we tell Peer Group patients from Short Hills, Morristown, Livingston, and throughout the northern New Jersey region that, in the final analysis, is the best plastic surgery combination possible.

Sometimes diet and exercise aren’t enough to shed excess weight. For some people carrying pounds that won’t go away, a body lift may be the solution. A body lift eliminates excess fat, folds, and loose hanging skin to provide you with a more contoured appearance. And by the way, this plastic surgery procedure is also an excellent option for people who have lost a significant amount of weight, and want to eliminate the excess folds of skin that the weight loss has left behind. Our team of board certified plastic surgeons at The Peer Group have helped men and women throughout northern New Jersey achieve their aesthetic goals with this cosmetic surgery procedure. And one of the best aspects of this procedure is that it can target specific parts of the body.
A plastic surgeon can perform four types of body lift: An upper body lift, lower body lift, mid body lift, and total, or circumferential body lift. The upper body lift typically addresses areas such as the arms and breasts. If the hips, buttocks and thighs are your problem areas, a lower body lift can create a more fit look to the lower body region. In a mid-body lift, the cosmetic plastic surgeon slims the abdomen – like a tummy tuck – in addition to the thighs, buttocks, and hips, creating a firm contour from the stomach area down to the thighs. In a total, or circumferential body lift, the body contouring procedure targets virtually every part of the body including the breasts, arms, abdomen, thighs, hips, and buttocks. Total body lift procedures are especially helpful for individuals who have experienced massive weight loss and are affected by loose, overhanging skin in a range of body areas.
A body lift is a major cosmetic procedure, and you should expect significant amounts of recovery, particularly if you’re having a total body lifts. A total body lift may require six weeks or more for full recovery. Body lift plastic surgery leaves some visible scarring, but your body lift surgeon will make the required incisions in areas that will ensure that scars are discreet and can be easily hidden under clothing. Your doctor can show you photographs of patients taken before and after plastic surgery, so you can see the results a body lift can achieve. That can help you decide if this aesthetic procedure is right for you.
