Blepharoplasty (Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery) - Common Questions

Blepharoplasty is the medical term for a cosmetic eyelid surgery. These sorts of surgeries can be performed for a number of different reasons. Below are some of the most frequently asked questions about this type of surgery.

How long do the results of an eyelid lift last?

The answer to this question about blepharoplasty (cosmetic eyelid surgery) varies greatly but many patients experience benefits of 10 years or longer. If you observe yourself blinking in a mirror, you will see that the upper eyelid does the majority of work, this means that this skin will loosen over time. When this happens, many patients opt to have this area “touched-up” by getting a mini eyelid lift or a laser resurfacing to tighten the affected skin.

Will the removed fat come back?

While the removed fat will not return unless you gain a significant amount of weight, it is possible for the lower lids to appear bulged again years after a blepharoplasty procedure. This effect happens when doctors do not remove enough fat during the initial surgery. Many plastic surgeons opt to leave a small amount of fat behind to avoid the appearance of sunken eyes that will happen if too much fat is removed. This route is best for patients as fat can always be removed but replacement is a difficult procedure.

Will an eyelid lift improve my crow’s feet and eyelid wrinkles?

No. Crow’s feet and eyelid wrinkles are textural problems and require skin resurfacing to improve their appearance. Blepharoplasty removes excess fat from around the eyes and improves the appearance of sagging or loose skin by tightening it.

How much does a blepharoplasty procedure cost?

Eyelid lift fees are typically quoted either per lid (uppers and lowers) or for all four lids (both eyes). The fee to correct all four lids is often less expensive than the fee for individual lids.
